It’s happened in every history class that I’ve ever been in; someone eventually says, “How could they live like that?”
The middle ages, Roman times, colonial America — how could they live like that? They must have been so miserable. I couldn’t handle it, surely.
They live like that because that’s how they lived. Life is mostly miserable, it’s just that nobody talks about it. Especially these days, because the people who tell us the news are rich, and they feel fine.
How could they live like that back then? How can we live like that now?
